The Conference, integrated in the VIII International Religious Tourism Workshops, took place on March 5, welcoming almost to 600 participants. Subordinated to the theme "Youth, Religion and Spirituality: old challenges in new times", Paulo Mendes Pinto, Researcher at Universidade Lusófona, said that the religious tourism and pilgrimage market is now much more segmented and growing noteworthy. Who investigates in this area realizes the appearance of niches. These trips are for all ages, include varied motivations (not just specifically religious) and cover visitors from urban and rural areas, in a considerable range of scales.
The novelty of this edition comes from the contacts exchange, which took place in a 1,000m2 tent, installed in park number 12 of the Sanctuary.
We had registered 170 Hosted Buyers, 137 Suppliers and 50 Exhibitors, specialists in religious tourism, from a total of 43 countries. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this edition had 37 cancellations from Hosted Buyers. Even so, this stback did not make it impossible to hold one to one meetings, reducing only the amount of the appoitments initially planned. Of the 5,440 meetings scheduled, 4250 were held.
