The V International Workshop on Religious Tourism (IWRT) took place between 9 and 14 March, with the theme: “Welcoming the Pope: Tourism and major religious events”, which was attended by international speakers, namely : United States, France, Poland, Brazil. The Portuguese authorities, GNR and Civil Protection were also represented, whose presentations dealt with the challenges in organizing major world pilgrimages in the context of the preparation of the Pilgrimage of Pope Francis to Fátima in May 2017 on the occasion of the Commemoration of the Centenary of the Apparitions of Fatima.
At the end of the seminar, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Ana Mendes Godinho, was present in the event and visited buyers and suppliers in the early afternoon of meetings.
About 7800 people attended the seminar, including suppliers, hosted buyers, academic representatives, official entities, students and other interested parties.
