The IX International Workshop on Religious Tourism (IWRT) took place on 24 and 25 June 2021.
The IWRT is organised by ACISO - Ourém-Fátima Business Association, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Ourém, the Municipality of Guarda and the Sanctuary of Fátima, with the support of Turismo de Portugal, Turismo do Centro de Portugal and the Regional Tourism Promotion Agency Centro de Portugal.
The objectives of this event are to:
- Promote a exchange of business contacts among the participants;
- Promote Portugal internationally as a privileged destination for Religious Tourism;
- Reinforce the importance of Religious Tourism in the context of the world tourism sector.
In 2021, and as a result of the pandemic still experienced worldwide, the Conference was held at the Paulo VI Pastoral Centre, in the Bom Pastor Hall, on 24 June.
The Conference was live-streamed on the IWRT website and was not attended by the public.
The Contact Exchange between Hosted Buyers and Suppliers took place online, without the physical presence of the participants.
This year, 107 Hosted Buyers and 78 Suppliers specialised in Religious Tourism were registered for the virtual edition, making a total of 34 countries. A total of 3404 One-To-One online meetings were scheduled for the IX IWRT.
